The 16th National Assembly is scheduled to hear proposals and verification reports on the draft revised Law on Civil Status, the draft Laws on amendments and supplementations to the Law on Notarisation and the Law on Legal Aid; and the draft amended Law on Access to Information on April 9, as part of the agenda of its first session.

Deputies will then hold group discussions on these bills.

In the afternoon sitting, lawmakers will review a series of key reports, including a supplementary assessment of the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan and state budget, as well as updates on performance in the early months of 2026.

The Government will also present a proposal on the five-year socio-economic development plan for 2026–2030. These will be followed by verification reports delivered by the Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs.

The session will be broadcast live on television and radio, allowing voters and the public to closely follow proceedings.

The NA is then expected to examine submissions and verification reports on the medium-term public investment plan for 2026–2030, the national financial plan, and the five-year public debt management plan for the same period.

Additionally, deputies will consider a proposal for approving the 2024 state budget settlement, alongside the audit report and the corresponding verification report.

During the remainder of the afternoon, lawmakers will engage in group discussions covering a wide range of issues, including the implementation of socio-economic and budgetary plans in 2025 and early 2026, the five-year development strategy for 2026–2030, public investment and financial plan, public debt management, the 2024 state budget settlement, thrift practice and anti-wastefulness efforts in 2025, and progress in achieving national gender equality targets.

A central focus will be decisions on the organisational structure and the election and approval of high-ranking personnel within the state apparatus - matters of critical importance to the effectiveness of governance throughout the term.

 

National Election Council confirms eligibility of 16th National Assembly deputies

The National Election Council on March 27 issued Resolution No. 238/NQ-HĐBCQG, confirming that all 500 individuals elected as deputies to the 16th National Assembly meet the legal requirements to serve as deputies.

At a press conference on March 21, 2026, the National Election Council announced the composition of the 16th National Assembly, highlighting representation of women, ethnic minorities, non-Party members and younger deputies, as well as a high proportion of members with postgraduate qualifications.

 

Key milestones following National Assembly and People’s Council elections

On March 15, 2026, voters nationwide cast their ballots to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. After the vote, the National Election Council and local election committees continue key procedures to complete the electoral process in accordance with the law.

To enhance public communication and promote digital transformation in election work, the Hanoi chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front has introduced a digital map of information on the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and the Hanoi People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term. The digital map helps expand the application of information technology and digital transformation in providing services and information to voters across the city.

 

Nationwide voting for 16th National Assembly, People’s Councils for 2026-2031 begins

According to the National Election Council, from 864 candidates, voters will elect 500 deputies to the 16th National Assembly (1.73 candidates per seat). For provincial-level People’s Councils, voters will elect 2,552 deputies from 4,217 candidates (1.65 candidates per seat). For commune-level People’s Councils, voters will elect 72,611 deputies from 120,873 candidates (1.66 candidates per seat).
