The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on December 5 announced an emergency international assistance package worth 2 million USD to help address the severe impacts of recent flooding in central Vietnam.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep met with ADB Country Director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty and received the bank’s formal confirmation of the grant.

The funding, drawn from the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF), aims to support communities in the central region whose lives and livelihoods have been heavily affected by prolonged torrential rains and flooding.

Chakraborty expressed his deep condolences over the losses suffered by residents in the flood-hit areas. He stressed that the emergency grant reflects ADB’s strong commitment to assisting Vietnam in disaster response and helping affected households overcome hardships.

Hiep thanked ADB for its timely support, noting that the aid is significant, necessary and timely, helping affected communities quickly stabilise their lives.

The grant is expected to be used to build and repair homes for families whose properties have collapsed or been severely damaged by the recent disasters.

In the coming period, relevant Vietnamese agencies and ADB will complete the necessary procedures for approval of the grant, which will be disbursed over six months from the date of signing.

On November 30, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued a dispatch launching a rapid campaign called "Quang Trung Campaign" to rebuild and repair houses for disaster-hit families in the central provinces.

Vietnam Fatherland Front allocates additional aid to hard-hit flood provinces

Under the latest decision, Dak Lak province will receive 50 billion VND, Khanh Hoa 40 billion VND, while Gia Lai and Lam Dong will each be provided 30 billion VND. This brings the total funding distributed by the VFF’s Central Relief Committee to the four provinces to 275 billion VND as of November 29

 

Central, south-central floods cause nearly 500 million USD in losses

Flooding has damaged 82,147 ha of rice and seasonal crops, 117,067 ha of perennial crops, killed or swept away more than 3.3 million livestock and poultry, and affected 1,157 ha of aquaculture. Floods and landslides have left 102 people dead, 11 missing, 221 homes destroyed and 933 others damaged.

 

Forty-four passenger trains stop running due to flooding in central region

As road transport paralysed in many areas, railway authorities have provided 9,400 complimentary main meals and 6,100 supplementary meals to stranded passengers.

 

1.1 trillion VND in emergency aid allocated to four flood-hit provinces

Under the decision, Khanh Hoa will receive 150 billion VND, Lam Dong 300 billion VND, Gia Lai 150 billion VND, and Dak Lak 500 billion VND, in line with the proposal submitted by the Ministry of Finance.
